Russia and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Scientific and Educational Cooperation
Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Moscow, Sami Al-Sadhan.
"This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia. During the recent bilateral meeting between the heads of our states, a mutual commitment was noted to expand cooperation across all areas, including the scientific and educational sphere,"
— said Konstantin Mogilevsky.
Key discussion points included:
- Training of Saudi students in Russian universities in high-demand fields such as medicine, IT, space sciences, and petrochemistry;
- Inter-university partnerships: over 30 agreements are currently in place between Russian and Saudi universities, covering joint educational programs, academic exchanges, and research projects;
- Joint scientific and educational events.
The Forum of the Federation of Rectors of Russian and Arab Universities is held on a regular basis. The next Forum is scheduled for 2027 at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Additionally, in May this year, the Krasnov Research Institute of Eye Diseases held an International Forum in the field of ophthalmology, which brought together representatives from 20 countries, including practising physicians from Saudi Arabia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to deepen the existing partnership and intensify efforts to finalise bilateral documents in the areas of science and the mutual recognition of education.
