Strengthening Professional International Journalism Standards

Strengthening Professional International Journalism Standards

The International Media School for foreign bloggers was held in Kaliningrad, Russia, on May 5–8, 2026. The event was organized by the Directorate of the World Youth Festival and the SHUM Youth Media Development Center, and was hosted by Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University – a leading Russian institution. The event brought together approximately 50 content creators from the UK, Belgium, Bolivia, Armenia, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, the Sahel region, and other countries.

RT Academy’s Role: Strengthening Professional Journalism Standards

As a key professional media training partner, RT Academy contributed a two‑day training module on May 6–7, focusing on practical skills and ethical media production. Jared DeLuna, Technical Director of Social Media at RT International, delivered a comprehensive lecture and workshop covering:
  • Identifying and responding to trending topics in a fast‑changing news environment.
  • Adapting content across multiple digital platforms while maintaining factual accuracy and narrative consistency.
  • Integrating artificial intelligence into production workflows without compromising editorial integrity.
  • Transforming long‑form news reports into concise, engaging short‑form vertical video formats suitable for global social media audiences.

Participants engaged in direct dialogue, shared their own content strategies, and recorded spontaneous interviews with the speaker. The sessions were followed by informal networking, allowing for deeper professional exchange.

Why This Matters for BRICS+ Society

The BRICS+ Universities Association regards journalism education and media training as essential components of a sovereign, multipolar information space. The ability to report facts in an honest, fair, comprehensive, objective, and complete manner is not only a professional standard – it is a foundation for mutual understanding and cooperation among BRICS+ nations.

Events such as the International Media School demonstrate how universities and media institutions should contribute to:
  • Building cross-border professional networks among young journalists and content creators.
  • Promoting responsible journalism that respects different cultural and political contexts.
  • Strengthening the human capital needed for independent media development across BRICS+ countries.

A Model for University–Media Partnership

The collaboration between the World Youth Festival Directorate, SHUM, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, and RT Academy offers a replicable model for higher education institutions seeking to integrate practical media training into their international programs.

The BRICS+ Universities Association welcomes this initiative and encourages member universities to explore similar partnerships in journalism education and media literacy as a strategic priority for sustainable international cooperation.
